Assam down town University celebrated National Unity Day 2026 with a series of activities organised jointly by the Faculty of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (FPAR) and the AdtU Dance Club.
The celebration marked the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, fondly remembered as the Iron Man of India, and highlighted the importance of unity, national integration and respect for India's diverse cultures and traditions.
The celebration began with a Run for Unity across the university campus, bringing together students, faculty members and staff, reflecting the essence of unity in diversity that defines India’s social fabric.
As part of the program, Dr. Robin Gogoi, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, addressed the gathering and spoke about the importance of national unity and integrity. He also highlighted the role of young people in preserving the country's shared values while respecting its cultural and social diversity.
The cultural segment added a special touch to the celebration, with students presenting a multi-state diversity dance performance and brought together the cultural expressions of different parts of India, celebrating the country's rich heritage.
This was followed by a Cultural Ramp Walk, where participants represented the traditional attire and cultural identities of various Indian states. The presentation offered a colourful representation of India's diversity and the many traditions that make its cultural identity unique.

The celebration concluded with the administration of the National Unity Day Pledge, as students, faculty and staff reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the unity, integrity and security of the nation.
Delivering the Vote of Thanks, Dr Shalaka Baidya (PT), Assistant Professor, Faculty of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation and Convenor of the AdtU Dance Club, expressed her gratitude to the university administration, dignitaries, faculty members, organising teams and students for their support and participation. She also acknowledged the joint efforts of FPAR and the AdtU Dance Club in bringing the celebration together.
The celebration was a reminder that unity does not mean being the same, it means respecting and embracing our differences while standing together. Through this initiative, AdtU encouraged students to value India's cultural diversity and recognise their role in building a more united and harmonious nation.
