B.Sc. in Microbiology is a 3-year undergraduate programme, which deals with basic and advanced study of the microorganisms, including microbial cellular processes, their harmful and beneficial aspects, microbes for human welfare, molecular details of microbial cells and develops knowledge and understanding for applying it for societal benefits which may include sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, soil and environment, food processing, pharmaceutical etc.
The programme is divided across 6 semesters, of six months each, and the basic eligibility criteria for applying to the programme is a minimum of 45% overall in 10+2 with English, Biology and Chemistry as compulsory subjects and either of Physics, Biotechnology, Mathematics or Life Science as additional subjects completed from a recognized educational board.
Microbiology is one of the multi disciplinary fields with great demand in various applications in the field of research and development. After pursuing this programme the students will develop a concrete foundation of the subject and after that opt for various higher studies like M.Sc., M.Phil. and PhD. A graduate in Microbiology may avail jobs in various fields like the Research and Development Industry, Pharmaceutical Industries, Education Sector, Laboratories, Food Industries, Beverage Industries, Chemical Industries, Cosmetic Industries and Agricultural Industries.
