B.Pharm (Practice)

What is this Programme about?

Bachelor of Pharmacy (Practice) abbreviated as B. Pharm (Practice) or B. Pharm Practice (Bridge course) is a degree certificate course conducted as per the Pharmacy Council of India regulation 2014. The purpose of this course is to provide an additional qualification to the Diploma registered pharmacists.

The course provides advanced specialization for the Diploma students in the areas of Clinical therapeutics / pharmacy practice and achieves graduate degree in these advanced areas and work at similar status with other members of healthcare team. It also provides opportunity to undertake advanced research studies and qualifications in the areas.

Duration of the course: The duration of the course is two academic years with each year spread over a period of not less than 180 working days.

Minimum qualification for admission to the course:

i. A pass in Diploma course in Pharmacy from an institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India under section 12 of the Pharmacy Act, 1948.

ii. A registered pharmacist.

iii. A minimum of four years of pharmacy practice experience in a community or hospital pharmacy

a) A certificate from competent authority stating that the candidate is endorsed as registered pharmacist in the drug license of a pharmacy as proof of practice experience in case of community pharmacist

b) A certificate from the Principal/Medical Superintendent/competent person of the Hospital/Health Unit stating that the candidate is working as a pharmacist will be accepted as proof of practice experience in case of hospital pharmacist

iv. A ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the employer in prescribed format, mentioned in the PCI regulation under Annexure – A

The number of admissions: Restricted to 40 students per academic year as prescribed by the Pharmacy Council of India.

Course of study: The course shall consist of class room teaching and assignment works. The assignment works shall be done at the place of work under the supervision and guidance of teaching staff of the academic institution.

The course provides opportunity to diploma candidates in Pharmacy to undertake advanced studies in Clinical Pharmacotherapy and Practice areas and attend to community Pharmacy, Practice and clinical requirements as a graduate Pharmacy professional and work at equivalent positions and status vis a vis other healthcare professionals. Graduation also opens up the chances for further postgraduate and doctoral specialization in Pharma Sciences. It also provides possibility to take career options in international avenues.
