B.Sc Microbiology

What is this Programme about?

B.Sc. in microbiology is a 3-year undergraduate programme, which deals with basic and advanced study of the microorganisms, including microbial cellular processes and develops understanding and knowledge for applying it onto the sectors such as health, agriculture, environment etc. The programme is divided across 6 semesters, of six months each, and the basic eligibility for applying to the programme is 10+2 qualification in the science stream, completed from a recognized educational board.

Pursuing this programme the students may opt for various higher studies like M.Sc, M.Phil, and PhD which will improve the chances for better jobs. Besides a graduate in microbiology may avail jobs in the Research and Development, Education, Pharmaceutical and agricultural sectors and microbiological industries.

B. Sc. Microbiology

The Course of Study & Scheme of Examination

Rules And Regulation

Students will be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Microbiology after successful completion of the course.

1. The course will be of three years duration comprising of six semesters, with theory, practical papers and one project work.

  1. Theory papers will carry 100 marks (60 marks theory and 40 marks for internal assessment).
  2. Practical papers will carry 50 marks (30 marks practical and 20 marks for internal assessment)
  3. Students need to secure 40% marks in both theory and internal assessment for passing a paper.
  4. A project in environmental studies carrying 50 marks is to be submitted in the 3rd semester.
  5. Students need to have a minimum of 75% attendance to be able to appear for the final examination.
  6. Two sessional examinations will be conducted in a semester carrying 20 marks each for theory and one sessional carrying 10 marks for practical.
  7. 20% of the total marks scored in each sessional will be considered in internal marks.
  8. Students need to submit a project carrying 150 marks in their 6th semester.

Eligibility

Students who have passed Higher Secondary (Science) with 50% marks in PCB from a recognised board are eligible for admission in B. Sc. Microbiology course.
