The student develops an aptitude and scientific temperament to apply the technical skills in various important areas of biotechnology such as immunology, agricultural biotechnology, medical biotechnology, plant biotechnology, molecular biology. Cell biology involves the study of structure and functions of the cell. Cell is basic functional unit of life and is indispensable part of tissue and organization of structure of any organism. The communication between cells is central to the functioning of any living organism.

This paper is intended for students to impart knowledge on introduction to the study of biological processes at the molecular level with emphases on protein structure and function, enzyme mechanism and kinetics, fundamentals of physical biochemistry, and the chemistry of biological molecules, including carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids.

The course of genomics and molecular biology includes understanding of DNA, RNA and protein molecule’s structure and variations. The course pays attention in understanding the minute events associated with central dogma of life starting from DNA being replicated to transcribed and ultimately translated. The Post transcriptional and post translational events are discussed in dept. The course also touches upon about mutation, mutagens and repair mechanisms.

Immunology course includes description of the components of the Immune system and their functions, concepts of Immunity and immune response, altered immune responses like hypersensitivity and autoimmunity. It also includes concepts of cancer immunology, transplant immunology and immunodeficiency.

Through the Bioinformatics course, students will have both theoretical and practical knowledge on different computational techniques employed in analyzing biological data focusing on Genomics and Proteomics. The course will also give a brief idea on different computational approaches in the area of drug designing
