The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 11th May, 2015 was due to expire, Assam down town University and CSIR-North Eastern Institute of Science & Technology, Jorhat have decided to continue their collaboration through a fresh MoU, which replaced the earlier MoU. The current Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Assam down town University and CSIR-North Eastern Institute of Science & Technology, Jorhat at the Conference Room, CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat on 16th June, 2020 to promote cooperation in scientific education and research between the two R&D Institutions/ University. Dr. N.N. Dutta, Chancellor from Assam down town University side and Dr. G Narahari Sastry, Director from CSIR-North Eastern Institute of Science & Technology Jorhat inked the MoU. The tenure of the MoU will be for five years (2020-2025). Dr. G Narahari Sastry, Director, CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, Dr Jatin Kalita, Principal Scientist, CPIO & Head, I&BD, Dr. Partha Paul, Sr. Scientist, RPBD, Chief Scientists Nodal Officer & Head, Geo-Science attended the MoU signing ceremony from CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat. Mr. Ashim Barman, Additional Registrar (Administration) and Mr. Nishan Kakati, Research Coordinator, Assam down town University attended the MoU signing ceremony from Assam down town University. The signing ceremony was started with a warm welcome address by Dr. G Narahari Sastry, Director, CSIR-North Eastern Institute of Science & Technology, Jorhat who presented an overview of the research and development activities undertaken at CSIR NEIST, Jorhat. He mentioned that today's signing sets a significant milestone for closer research collaboration among the scientists/researchers/faculties of both the institutions. He spoke about various measures to be taken in promoting research, innovation and technology, not only because of its effect of an event on the economy in a specified area or to diversify our own industry and business, but also to develop a strong foothold to revolutionize medical and health care system and convert our research results into feasible products and services. The two Institutes/ Universities agreed to extend the collaborative agreement through utilization of each other’s strengths in teaching and research, which in turn, will mutually benefit the students and faculty and scientific members of both the organizations. He also urged the faculty members/ researchers of the two institutions to facilitate a) continued collaboration and partnerships on various projects that can benefit humanity b) To facilitate joint seeking of funds and conduct of research, submission of projects for research and development in the fields of mutual interest, exchange of visiting research scholars including advanced graduate students c) to facilitate faculty and staff development and exchange through training programmes, creation/development of new experimental and research/training facilities through mutual co-operation of CSIR-NEIST and Assam down town University through exchange of experts, etc and d) to jointly propose/organize short-term continuing education programs, trainings on topics of mutual interest and to invite researchers of both the institutions to participate therein. Mr. Nishan Kakati, Research Coordinator, Assam down town University gave away brief appraisal about the research activities undertaken by the University and benefits obtained under MoU with CSIR-NEIST Jorhat during the period: 2015-2020. He also mentioned about various research/academic activities undertaken with CSIR-NEIST under the guidance of Dr. B G Unni, Adviser Research, AdtU and Former Chief Scientist, CSIR-NEIST and the management of the University in various sectors such as collaborative research projects, short term training for students of Assam down town University, visit of faculties from Assam down town University to CSIR-NEIST for hands on training for equipments etc, joint Ph.D guidance, publication of joint research papers etc since 2015. Mr. Ashim Barman, Additional Registrar (Administration) Assam down town University in his remarks thanked the Director, CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat and other Scientists/ Officials present in the meeting and said that it will establish a strong and collaborative relations between the two institutions to promote friendship and to co-operate in a mutually beneficial association that promotes the interests of the poor, protect the environment, provide basic social services or undertake community development in a society and urged the scientists/ researchers/ faculties of both the institution to carry forward joint research between the two institutions in the areas of mutual interest in the area of Health sector and others of societal benefit. The MoU signing function ended with a vote of thanks by the Principal Scientist, CSIR-NEIST Jorhat to all the members for their participation at the meeting.
