What is this Programme about?

Degree in social work prepare students to work in multiple fields by providing them with the training and skills necessary to help people improve their lives .Social work is a professional course which aims to help communities and societies to develop focus on social justice and on redressing social and economic disadvantages. The MSW programme offers specialisation in Community Development, Human Resource Development and Medical and Psychiatry Social Work. Apart from the classroom teaching the students shall undergo Concurrent Fieldwork and Block Placement according to their specialisation which helps the students to acquire more practical knowledge in that particular field.

The Masters of Social Work course consists of two years of full-time university level study. It aims to prepare students for effective professional practice as social workers in the social and community services sector.

The general objectives of the curriculum are associated with the liberal arts component of the MSW Course, which in time sequence precedes the professional component of the MSW course.

The objectives are:

  • To promote necessary skills of awareness, skills aiming at empowerment of people and skills in culture-sensitive methods of social change.
  • To promote social justice
  • To improve the quality of life for everyone.
  • To become aware of the organisation of the society and its development.
  • Use appropriate supervision and consultation to conduct research and disseminate research findings that contribute to enhancement of students personal and professional development.

Achievement:

  1. Three PhD degrees have been awarded under Prof. Lanu Devi.
  2. Social work students were awarded 1st and 2nd  prizes in ‘Street Play’ and ‘Paper Presentation’ competitions organized by Dibrugarh University in “Ekayaan- a social work student’s meet”, 2017.
  3. Appreciation award on International Women’s day, 2019 for Functional Literacy Programme.
  4. Award for Best CSR activities.
  5. 2nd prize in installation competition in Ekayan 2020, a social work convention, held in Dibrugarh University
  6. 2nd prize in Skit Competition by Social Work students held on World Suicide Prevention Day, 2020.
  7. 3rd prize in Skit Competition by Psychology students held on World Suicide Prevention Day, 2020.
