B. Tech. Civil

What is this Programme about?


It is the full time degree programme offering the degree of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) (Civil Engineering) upon successful completion.

Programme Vision:

Civil Engineering Programme endeavors to provide outstanding engineering education in a unique environment that blends the intellectual and technological resources of a world class research university, with a holistic approach which supports a diversity of perspective, distinctive sense of community and a student centric experiential learning environment.

Programme Mission:

1. To produce Engineers committed to innovative application of Civil Engineering to address the societal needs.

2. To impart and disseminate new transformational knowledge and develop technologies that further the wellbeing and sustainability of society.

3. To develop workforce capable of leadership in enhancing the role and visibility of engineering profession.

4. Focus on building core strength and visibility in cross cutting strategic areas. To produce effective leaders in the conduct of interdisciplinary research and the development of innovative approaches to solving civil and environmental engineering problems

Learning Objectives:

Below are the learning objective(s) –

  • To prepare students excel in careers in civil engineering, construction and related fields.
  • To produce responsible workforce for employers to perform engineering and managerial services.
  • Channelize the potentials of students either in academics, research or industry related to Civil Engineering for an overall simulation of economic growth across the country.
  • Familiarize students with the developmental and construction related problems of the region and encourage a participatory approach of experiential learning and problem solving.

Engineering and Technology (Regular entry to 1st Sem)

  • Selection procedure for admission is on merit basis. Passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/Technical Vocational subject. Obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the above subjects taken together.

Engineering and Technology (Lateral entry to 3rd Sem)

  • Passed B.Sc. Degree from a recognized University as defined by UGC, with at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) and passed 10+2 examination with Mathematics as a subject.
  • Provided that the students belonging to B.Sc. Stream, shall clear the subjects Engineering Graphics/ Engineering Drawing and Engineering Mechanics of the First Year Engineering Programme along with the Second year subjects.
  • Provided that the students belonging to B.Sc. Stream shall be considered only after filling the supernumerary seats in this category with students belonging to the Diploma stream.


How this Programme Benefit you & your Career?

The career prospects of the B.Tech. students can be divided either in jobs or in higher studies/research. In terms of jobs, the students are eligible and competent for applying and securing jobs in government departments, MNCs, Public Sector Units (PSUs) as well as private organizations. They are equally qualified to open up their own construction or design firms and business. They can sit for and qualify competitive exams like Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) or Indian Engineering Services (IES). Other than that, a graduate, interested in higher studies can apply in Indian as well as Foreign Universities and pursue Post graduate level studies and PhD.

    1. Dr. Arnob Bormudoi, HoD (Faculty of Engineering and Technology) has received funding of Rs 9500/- from Assam Science Technology and Environmental Council to accomplish research related to the subject of Assesment of Water Pollution near Landfill Site in Guwahati city with the help of Remote Sensing and Field Data

    2. Dr. Saikat Deb, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering has received funding of Rs 9000/- from Assam Science Technology and Environmental Council to accomplish research related to the subject of Estimating the Effect of On Road Parking on Traffic Stream Characteristicsfor Various Locations of Guwahati city.

    3. Mr. Biswadeep Bharali, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering  has received funding of Rs 10000/- from Assam Science Technology and Environmental Council to accomplish research related to the subject of Promoting Sustainable Housing with Fundamental Shift beyond Net Zero and Green Home.

   4. Miss. Seema Kumari, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering has received funding of Rs 10000/- from Assam Science Technology and Environmental Council to accomplish research related to the subject of Pervious Concrete for Ground Water Recharge and Geotechnical Monitoring by Ardiuno Sensors and its Programming.

  • Landslide susceptibility mapping using Remote Sensing and a statistical model in the Papum Basin of Arunachal Pradesh

The syllabus followed in the Civil Engineering Programme is in strict guidance with the AICTE prescribed syllabus. It is vastly similar with the syllabus followed by many prestigious Universities and Technical Institutions in India.   1. Students from 8th semester received “AUTOCAD” course completion certificate.
  2. One of our student, Abhash Acharjee received 1st prize in the “NCC competition”.
  3. One students, Lhipre – U- Tsuha and Kope Aruji, received their course completion certificate on “Diploma Computer Application (DCA)”
  4. A student of 8th semester, named Abhijit Kalita from civil engineering received certificate on “STAADPRO” and “Diploma in Computer Application (DCA)” 
  5. Our student, Subham Saha received certificate on “PGDCA” computer course.
  6. Minal Kuddus, a student from 8th semester, received the 1st prize for” Best Photography, 2020”
