What is this Programme about?

The programme of Applied Psychology is oriented towards solving practical problems and to translate the fruits of our scientific labor into real world. A Master degree in Applied Psychology programme will enable students to solve challenging everyday problems that intersect with human behaviour. This programme typically includes the study of cognitive, developmental, organizational, health, clinical as well as research and statistics.

Applied Psychology programme encompasses the core skills of analytical thinking, research and communication. In addition it will also empower the students with an opportunity to develop expertise, such as the ability to engage in testimony witness with a specialization in forensic psychology. Applied Psychology also offers interdisciplinary options allowing the knowledge of applied psychology to be integrated with other disciplines like public health and so on. MA APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY: JOB PROFILE

 

1. Clinical Psychologist: Clinical psychologists treat individuals suffering from chronic psychiatric disorders.

 

2. Consultant Psychologist: Consultant psychologist directs his/her attention to helping people with adjustment problems rather than chronic disorders. They find employment in education departments, schools, colleges etc.

 

3. Clinical Researcher: A clinical researcher carries out research and experiment on the structure, function and development of brain and its cellular systems.

 

4. School and Career Counselor: School counselors work with middle and high school students to help them develop the social and academic skills necessary to succeed in school and after graduation. Career counselors guide adults in exploring potential career interests and paths. Most counselor positions require state licensure; school counselors may also require a master's degree in a related field.

 

5. Substance Abuse, Behavioural and Mental Health Counselor: These types of counselors provide support for individuals suffering from afflictions like drug abuse, alcoholism, and other mental and behavioral disorders. Counselors may work in a variety of settings, from prisons to private practices. Most counselor positions require a bachelor's degree, and mental health counselors often complete a master's degree in order to practice.

 

 

6. Training and Development Specialist:

A training and Development Specialist helps assess the need for and develop employee and leadership training programs across industries. They also work with teams and organizations in training employees in personality development and their communication skills.

 

In addition Applied Psychology also offers career in the field of Health Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Sports Psychology etc.

 

In the modern world, behavioral and mental health issues present significant challenges for managers, administrators, coaches and those in a supervisory position. There are many opportunities for students pursuing a degree in applied psychology in the fields of business, sports, academia, government and numerous other industries and institutions. As the need to understand and predict human behaviour expands, properly credentialed applied psychologists will continue to be in great demand.

 

Research:

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences has opened up opportunities for conducting PhD in Psychology. Faculty members has contributed to research by publishing several articles in journals and contributing to book chapters. Faculty membes have also taken extensive training on research by attending webinars, Faculty Development Programmes and Seminars. Research is an integral part of the Post Graduate Curriculum. Students are given information on theoretical concepts related to research and also to apply the knowledge in conducting research.

As a part of learning, various activities are also conducted in relation to the observance of special days such as World Mental Health Day, World Suicide Prevention Day and Childrens’ Day.

Post Graduate Students are encouraged to take up research studies based on the felt needs of the society, and which are innovative and also encouraged for research publications.
