MSc. Botany

What is this Programme about?

M.Sc. in Botany is a 2-year postgraduate programme, which deals with basic and advanced study on plants and develops understanding and knowledge for applying onto the agricultural, horticultural, floricultural and environment & forest sectors. The programme is divided across 4 semesters, of six months each, and the basic eligibility for applying to the programme is graduate qualification in the B.Sc. with major in Botany, completed from a recognized educational board.

Botany is one of the multi disciplinary fields with great demand in various applications in the field of research and development. Pursuing this programme the students may opt for various higher studies like M.Phil, and PhD which will improve the chances for better jobs. Besides a post graduate in Botany may avail jobs in the Research and Development, agricultural, horticultural, floricultural, and environment & forest sectors.

  • Diversity of indigenous brinjal (Solanum sp) varieties of darrang district of Assam
  • Documentation of edible mushrooms consumed by the tribal people of Imphal West district, Manipur
  • Diversity of Solanum species in Rangia sub- division     
  • Diversity of Garcinia species found in Baksa district of Assam      
  • Aquatic macrophytes of selected wetlands in and around Guwahati city 
  • Documentation of edible mushrooms consumed by the tribal people of Kangpokpi district, Manipur
  • Identification, characterization and ethnobotanical use of aroids found in Baksa district of Assam
  • Plant diversity of selected Sacred groves in East Khasi Hill district 
  • Non-conventional fruit diversity in selected areas of Lakhimpur district of Assam
  • Documentation of edible mushroom (wild/cultivation) consumed by the tribal people of Meghalaya, East Khasi Hills district
  • Orchid diversity of Ziro and adjoining areas of Arunachal Pradesh
  • Medicinal tree species of Zero area of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Diversity of indigenous bean varieties of Dhubri district of Assam 
  • Documentation of edible mushroom (wild/cultivation) consumed by the tribal people of Assam ( Nalbari and BTR district)
  • Diversity of Ipomoea in Guwahati city
  • Studies on microbial diversity of rice field at different altitudes in Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh
  • Documentation of edible mushroom (wild/cultivation) consumed by the tribal people of Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya
  • Studies on microbial community of few important rivers in North Lakhimpur district of Assam
  • Studies on phyloplane mycoflora of few medicinally important plants of Assam
  • Studies on rhizosphere microflora at different growth stages of rice
  • Studies on microbial community in  the pond of different temples in Kamrup district of Assam
  • Studies on post harvest spoilage of rice seed in Darrang district of Assam
