The department of Management started with the MBA In Healthcare program in 2009 and in 2010 it got approval of the All India Council for Technical Education (A.I.C.T.E) as part of the down town group of Institutions, for the flagship MBA program, under Assam down town University. The University also started its BBA program from 2010.
The University has excellent infrastructures and other facilities such as large library, computer lab and well laid out class rooms. There are sufficient numbers of fulltime faculty members specialized in different branches of management studies. Teaching the highly practice oriented courses in the field of Management brings in multiple challenges to the students and the faculties alike. Continuous care is therefore taken in updating our course contents and the lesson plans. Carefully prepared case studies and projects are various tools used to help students better appreciate the challenges of analyzing and making decisions in the real business world. Also, the large number of reputed professionals associated as guest/part time faculty members, with their rich and diverse real life experiences enriches our pedagogy. Structured classroom interventions and various informal interactions are made to enable the students to quickly adapt to this new kind of academic environment whereby they graduate from pure academic activities to solve real life professional problems. Students are encouraged to learn by creative enquiry, group work, discovery and practice with the freedom of interaction not restricted by classroom boundaries.
Management education is as vast and diverse as the whole world itself. The Department of Management therefore regularly organizes seminars and conferences to expose the students the faculties alike to learn and update their knowledge and skills based on management professionals from diverse backgrounds. During the current academic session two such seminars were organized. A seminar on Leadership Development by a unique organization “Chick fill-A”, an American Multi Billion fast food company from the USA was organized. The speakers comprises of both academician and business entrepreneurs who are shareholders and operators of the highly successful “Chick fill-A Brand of Restaurants” in the USA. Their presentations and interaction sessions on “S.E.R.V.E Leadership” model, “Six sigma” quality cultures and topics from both an academic and real life practice standpoints were both very informative and interesting. The students from the Management Department had a great opportunity of a full day interacting and learning from these eminent speakers from diverse cultures.
An authoritative lecture by Padma Bhusan and founder Director of IIM, Bangalore – Prof. N.S. Ramaswamy organized by Guwahati Management Association was hosted by the Downtown Group where a number of students and faculty members of Management Department took part.
We believe these exposures to eminent personalities and cutting edge thought processes are an integral part of the learning culture we want in inculcate at our university.
The management department has embarked on new initiatives for the academic year 2012 for the better development of the students. From the academic year 2012 all MBA students will be given a free laptop after admission. The entire institution will be Wi Fi enabled to help all the students have broadband internet connectivity at all times.
The institution has also tied up with an Indian educational company to introduce MBA Pro and MBA Pro hire, with content for the program powered by Harvard Business Publishing and University of Cambridge, England. These modules are embedded in the curriculum and aims at exposing the students to international standard case study material and the internationally recognized case study approach of undertaking management training. Besides the exposure to domain expertise the students are also exposed in soft skills and interview facing challenges. We believe that this will make them better adapt for future challenges of their work place. These modules will greatly help the students to better grasp the management dynamics as well be prepared to face the corporate world. We are the only institute in the region to have access to such high quality international content at par with the best in the world.
The department is also collaborating with Global Impact Solutions, the Indian arm of an American consulting and training provider to provide joint programs in leadership and various other skill training. These modules are embedded in the existing curriculum.
We believe that our curriculum is unique compared of other MBA schools as a lot of the training is delivered in non-theoretical ways, which will help the students in practically having a better grasp of the subjects and various management issues at hand.
